“Inventory classification based on their
characteristics to assign appropriate planning and
control system “

Abstract:
Many organizations keep thousands of items in their warehouses,
which may worth more than fifty percent of all company’s
expenses. Controlling of these items by one material planning and
control system may not be rational or economic. Every methodology
has different cost and service level in different environments.
Therefore, the tool required in order to categorize the material based
upon suitability of material planning and control system. Proper
planning and control of materials and parts has always been an
important issue in manufacturing and business. Some techniques
have been developed and introduced in the last few decades to fulfill
this task in a systematic and effective manner which can be
categorized into three main groups of push, pull and traditional
systems. Each system has advantages and pitfalls and selecting the
best choice depends on individual material’s characteristics.
Therefore, in this research we present a model to classify material
and components in a manufacturing company by applying a
multiple criteria classification model and using comprehensive
criteria.
Finally we implement our model in a home appliances company
using real data.
